One of Japan's Leading Weaving Regions:
The Weaving Laboratory in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture
The loom steadily weaves a single piece of cloth, creating a rhythmic sound with each motion.
"I want to dye in the colors I admire"
Natural dyeing has evolved over time from this very desire.
Today, chemical dyes are the mainstream. Indeed, compared to natural dyes, chemical dyes are more affordable and appealing to creators. However, at times, dyes made from heavy metals or chemicals are not necessarily attractive for both people and nature. On the other hand, natural dyeing, which is entirely derived from nature, is inherently appealing to both humans and the environment.
At MAITO, our knitwear begins with the process of transferring the colors of nature onto materials by our hands.
