Natural dye
About Natural dyeing
Many Japanese colors are named after plants. This was due to the fascination with the hues of natural plants, ores, and animals.
This is the reason why we have cultivated the technique of grass and tree dyeing since ancient times.
About Natural Dyeing
About Natural Dyeing
Japanese color names are often derived from the names of plants. This reflects the fascination with the natural hues found in plants, minerals, and animals.~ "I want to dye in the colors I admire" ~Natural dyeing has evolved over time from this very desire. At MAITO, our knitwear begins with the process of transferring the colors of nature onto materials by our hands.

Concept
We want to be kind to both nature and people.
In a world full of things,
we believe it’s important to cherish Japan’s traditions, the skills of artisans, and the blessings of nature. Japan has many wonderful makers.
Our journey begins by visiting artisans across the country, meeting them face-to-face, and hearing their voices.
It’s true that natural materials can form pills or sometimes lose their shape.
Some might find them difficult to handle.
But natural materials have a unique texture and warmth、that is different from chemicals, and it feels very comforting.
Just as we enjoy watching the changing seasons, we can feel it directly on our skin.
Over time, we grow attached to these materials, and our daily lives become even more enjoyable. We want to be kind to both nature and people.
We aim to create things that can grow with the user over time.We hope that everyone involved in the making process is happy.
With these thoughts in mind, we create every day.
